Sausage…and so much more
My friend Kevin was just telling me about a restaurant he saw in Chicago called The Weiner’s Circle, where the staff berates the customers. Literally curses at them. As in, “That’ll be $26, bitch.”
Niiice.
“I need to work at a place like that!” he enthused.
But where do you find customer brutality like that in Phoenix?
Today, I think I found a contender: Stanley’s Sausages.
My husband did a drive by awhile back and deemed it worth a try, so we picked up some friends and went on a lunchtime adventure to the shop on 22nd Street and McDowell.
The five of us piled into the small shop.
“DO YOU WANT A SANDWICH. TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT,” the lady behind the counter barked in some Eastern European sounding accent.
“Meatball sub,” my husband said quickly. We each made our selections from the menu and communicated it to the gruff woman in a perfunctory manner.
“DRINK!” she bellowed later.
“I think I want to change my drink order, ” our friend said, “but I’m frightened.”
That said, I did enjoy my smoked polish sausage sub.

St. Vincent @ Modified
Watch this doe-eyed, slightly unhinged sprite with the angelic voice whip the indie boys into a frenzy. What I’m looking forward to: St. Vincent’s lovely voice singing songs from her new album, and some old favorites…and eating chicken in the parking lot.
What I’m not looking forward to: The sweatfest that is Modified in the summer. Modified, I beseech you, Phoenix hipsters don’t need to be any thinner. Invest in air.

What’s Cracking Good — High School Musical

I must confess…I love High School Musical (HSM).
I heard the buzz about the first one early on, oh about 3 years ago, and set my Tivo to record the Disney musical. It’s been on there ever since for those times I need a wholesome pick-me-up. Kind of like a no-calorie ice cream and fudge sauce.
HSM 2 was alright…but it didn’t make the Tivo cut.
I just rented HSM 3 from Netflix and am convinced that Disney dusts its DVDs with crack. I kept that thing for a week, and probably watched selected musical numbers 17 times.
I watched it before bed, then woke up singing duets with my husband.
I finally put the DVD in the mailbox…and am currently going through withdrawals.
I found a site where they are casting extras for High School Musical 4. I’m wondering if they need a 37 year-old extra. “Do you think they need any adults to play teachers?” I asked my husband.
Too old to be a Wildcat…but old enough to afford the DVD box set.
Come on, tell me it’s not fun:
