What the pho?

It seemed like I just got the news that Pho Bang, a Central Phoenix Vietnamese dive that had good noodle soup and a sour staff, closed.
I wasn’t too broken up about it. After one too many encounters with the gnarly old proprietors, I stopped going to Pho Bang, in favor of Maxim, home of delicious pho and PLEASANT service.
But driving down Camelback this evening, we spotted the sign outside, “Grand Opening!” So my husband and I decided to try it out.
What’s new:
- Horrible fluorescent lighting
- No beer
- Flat screen TV (turned very loud)
- New floor
- Some fancy oil(ish) paintings
- Quick service (though I’m not sure it could have gotten worse)
What’s the same:
- Delicious pho and egg rolls
- Distracting TV
- Large photos of women doing domestic chores
- Cheap, cheap, cheap
2 bowls of pho, 2 egg rolls and 2 lime-club sodas came to just over $17.
