Garden is going to hell in a handbasket

I was checking out garden progress, and spotted this rather large bug sitting on my zucchini plant. In my entomology classes, I’ve been learning about the good and bad bugs, that most are not pests, etc. etc. So I looked at the bug, grabbed by camera and took its picture, looked it up online, deduced that it’s a true bug, then came to find out…IT’S A SQUASH BUG!!!
According to a website:
Squash bugs feed on cucurbits (vine crops) and prefer squash and pumpkin. Both adults and nymphs cause damage by sucking nutrients from leaves and disrupting the flow of water and nutrients
Damn!
As I made my way around the garden, I found that my #2 melon split right up the middle. Looking online, I’m thinking it might be the sudden influx of water (irrigation followed by rain).

I still have #1….for now.
